Call for artists _ ICR#25

“ICR - International Creative Residences” is a performing art and contemporary music artistic residency program held in various European Countries and in Brazil since 2018 by the cultural association “Springtime Jazz Festival” (SJF) and various international partners. Dedicated to producing and presenting new works in the experimental music field, the program aims to explore and create new dialogues and values in music and society. Featuring experimental works and artists that move freely between genres and practices such as electroacoustic music, improvised music, contemporary jazz and world music, the program hopes to open up new possibilities through the collective research, co-creations, sharing of experiences and ideas. 

 

SJF invites musicians to join the 25th edition of the artistic residency program "ICR#25-International Creative Residences". ICR#25 will take place in Barletta and it will involve 5 musicians from the European Union Countries in various activities for 2 months, from September 16th to November 14th 2024. 

 

ICR#25's focus is on improvised music, as well as non-notational writing, direction and prompting practices. This work will be carried out hand in hand with research on the implementation of electronic devices on acoustic instruments.

 

The call is open to all musicians who meet the following criteria: 
• Over 18 years old;
• Legally residing in one of the Creative Europe countries: Albania, Austria, Armenia, Belgium, BosniaHerzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Kosovo,[1] Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tunisia, Ukraine;
• Or in one of the 9 Outermost Regions: Azores (Portugal), Canary Islands (Spain), French Guiana (France), Guadeloupe (France), Madeira (Portugal), Martinique (France), Mayotte (France), Reunion Island (France), and Saint-Martin (France);
• Or in one of the 13 Overseas Countries and Territories: Aruba (The Netherlands), Bonaire (The Netherlands), Curaçao (The Netherlands), French Polynesia (France), French Southern and Antarctic Territories (France), Greenland (Denmark), New Caledonia (France), Saba (The Netherlands), Saint Barthelemy (France), Sint Eustatius (The Netherlands), Sint Maarten (The Netherlands), St. Pierre and Miquelon (France), and Wallis and Futuna Islands (France).

We invite you to submit unique and innovative artworks, projects and ideas that can implement the research work to be carried out during the artistic residency. 

 

Applications will be processed by a committee, which will make the final selection based on the conceptual and technical characteristics outlined in this document, and their alignment with the ICR#25 artistic thematic.

Candidates must send their application to the email springtimejazzfest@gmail.com indicating in the subject "ICR#25 APPLICATION + NAME AND SURNAME". 

The application deadline is at 16:00 EET, May 30th, 2024. All applicants will be notified about the status of their submission via email in the first week of June. The successful applicants will be further briefed about their participation at that time.

 

WHAT WE PROVIDE

SJF will provide artists with accommodation, rehearsal rooms, as well as various mentoring activities on the topics of the residency. The association will also organize concerts for the presentation of individual and collective works created during the residency. SJF will also provide a fee/diary allowances of 1500€ for each artist involved in the project, as well as a travel reimbursement for a maximum value of 700€.

 

ARTISTIC RESIDENCY PREMISES

The artists will have at their disposal an equipped theater room and a recording studio (which also serves as a rehearsal room).
The theater room is equipped with 2 mixers (12 and 16 channels), 2 speakers and 4 monitors, music stands, microphones and cables, and to finish a lighting truss. Instead the recording studio is equipped with various small mixers and a 30-channel Mackie mixer for professional recordings, studio speakers, professional microphones and headphones, professional bass & guitar amplifier Ampeg, one Gretsch "Catalina" drums, cables and music stands. In each of the two spaces the artists will be supported by a sound engineer for recording sessions. Moreover, one of the accommodations is also equipped with a rehearsal room. Artists will have full access (from 9:00 to 20:00) to the rehearsal room, they will be free to choose the most appropriate rehearsal room for their needs.

 

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The commission will evaluate the proposals received on the basis of the following criteria and scores:

There will also be 7 points bonus for under35 artists and people with disabilities and 5 points bonus for woman artist. In any case the maximum score cannot exceed the quota of 100 points.
